College Attended: SUNY Geneseo - BS, MS Education Marital Status: Married since 1984 Spouse's Name: William Youngs Children: None unfortunately - see why below, Cancer Most Exciting Thing that Happened to You since 1972: Going to Europe had a profound effect. Attending Geneseo also - I met my future husband and got the preparation for two tremendously wonderful careers - as a special ed. teacher for 19 years and now as a college professor for the last 5 years. Any Funny Stories? Not really. The last 30 years have often been challenging. My husband had Hodgkins Disease in 1990 - 92. He is in full remission but has congestive heart failure as a result of Chemo and Radiation. Despite this, we both work full-time - he's a clinical neuropsychologist with a local hospital. Moving both our mothers to Indiana in 1994 was a real challenge to our sanity. Teacher who had the biggest impact on you: Bertha George - for starting the whole process in 1st Grade, Dick Knapp - for showing me what a true teacher should be, Jim Couden - he really prepared me to be successful in college, despite the Vocab Builder Books - Ugh! Anything else you would like to share with your former fellow classmates? I send my greetings and best regards for a wonderful reunion. Because of summer school obligations and a state-mandated program proposal due 7/1/02, I won't be able to join you. Looking forward to photos on the website. Funny High School Stories That Haven't Been Told Until Now: For a few select classmates, remember playing Bill Cosby's "It's the Lord, Noah" through the church's outside PA system during Youth Group (Diane, I haven't the faintest idea what your talking about!!!??? (Cliff)) Tell us what you though (back in 1972) some of your classmates would be doing in 2002: I never though Roger and I would run into each other at IUSB about 20 years ago - now I am a professor there! Is Gail Wright still in the Military? Is Bill Bundy still in the area?? Any Funny Stories on Former Classmates?? Not really, I was pretty straight-laced in High School. All the rest of you were having much more fun. Thank goodness college changed that for me! |
You are correct that my father died in December 1990 after a long struggle with myasthenia gravis. In 1994 my mother sold the old homestead and moved, with DJ, to Mishawaka. She lives three doors down from me in our condominium complex. She is doing relatively well at 83, although she was treated for bladder cancer in January. I think she is remarkable for her age-still active and alert... ... I teach in Elementary Education at IUSB. I mainly teach future teachers how to teach reading and language arts. I spent 19 years in special education as a teacher and finally said "enough"! I love this new career and hope to retire from IUSB some 17 (gulp) years from now. I found your questionnaire challenging. So many things have happened in the last 30 years. It is definitely wonderful to be 48 and at the top of my game. I wonder if the others feel the same. I enjoyed all your news and have passed on the family info to the rest of the Campfields. I am sorry I won't be able to be there in June. I am taking my "vacation" in the next two weeks at conferences in San Francisco and San Diego. I am ready for the beach. Keep up the good work. I am looking forward to photos of the real event.
