Additional Information (from questionnaire):

Occupation: Forester

College: Paul Smith's College, 1972 - 74; SUNY, Empire State College 1992- 1996

Marital Status, Children, and Spouse: Donna and I were married in 1975. Donna works as a Registered Nurse at our local hospital. Our family consists of two boys (or more correctly, at this point, young men). Joshua, 20 years old, is a sophomore at Clarkson University (in a classic case of overcompensation on his father's part, a math major!) and Jacob, 16 years old, is a sophomore at Watkins Glen High School. (I believe he is pursuing a dual major in soccer and young ladies, at the moment!). Joshua really prefers "Josh", while Jacob vastly prefers "Jake". Josh is quite loquacious while Jake is a man of few words … but if he speaks it usually pays to listen! They also have a big collection of funny stories about their parents. As parents, we are truly grateful to have two of the best kids on earth, who can laugh with as well as at their parents… 'nuff said, I'm startin to git misty-eyed.

Most exciting thing since 1972: Well... leaving out marriage and family life (definitely #1 on the hit parade for me), my 20 years with the US Forest Service were pretty exciting. Had the chance to do fire control work in the Midwest, Southeast, and Pacific Northwest, while maintaining a home base here in the Finger Lakes. Also had the opportunity to work on the Finger Lakes National Forest (only National Forest in New York) during the origination phase, doing land acquisition, forest inventory, and what not.

Any Funny Stories: Hmmm... best done in person I think. However, get ready for a whole raft. Donna and the boys probably have the best ones, but it may be hard to get me to shut up!

Teacher with the biggest impact: Assuming you refer to High School, I'd probably say either Mr. Gregory or Mrs. Case, but Mr. Stafford is probably in there somewhere. A whole different cast in college, of course.

Anything else: Hope this thing culminates... it'd be fun to see the whole crew again.

Evidence that Joel still has a great sense of humor... Here are some other excerpts from his questionnaire answers:

  • Are you interested in having a MCS Class of '72 Reunion?

Sure, sounds like a good time. Be fun to see some of the old crowd again!

  • Alumni Dinner June 23, 2002

I'd be willing to give it a shot, but my family might not be with me. Youngest kid will be playing in the concert band for graduation at home. Other summer weekends could work as long as I can get them on the calendar well in advance.

  • What activities?

Dinner: Absolutely! I've always been a big fan of putting on the feed bag

Dinner Dance: Are you sh... umm... are you out of your fu... umm... do you remember who you're talking to? I was terminally clumsy when we were in high school, and the intervening 30 years have not helped! I think I'll probably sit this one out.

    Tour: Maybe

Picnic: See comments about dinner above.

    Alumni Banquet: Maybe

Other: Don't forget to leave time to just talk! Oh yeah, and time to have something to eat too... or did I already mention that part?
