LaPorte County Steam Museum

Part of the "Home Town, U.S.A." Series

May 20, 2000 - a lovely cool Spring day
The Northern Indiana Rail Club uses this facility twice each year to try out their rideable model trains...

The Olson family at the gate...

Old-fashioned hot dog and snack stand...

The Olson's have a little picnic lunch first. See the half-scale excursion train in the background...

Hesston Junction - station for the steam excursion train...

Olson family in front of excursion train, with diesel locomotive...

One of the beautiful miniature steam locomotives...

What the day is all about, free rides on small trains (choo choo!!!)...

Choo Choo Charlie puts water in the steam engine...

The Olsons head out for a fun ride...

Here we go, starting our half-mile ride - no cameras allowed on train unfortunately...

Another train, another ride...

Two genuine train enthusiasts - Bob and John...

Even neophytes Faith and Rachel Olson enjoy the festivities...

The museum grounds give ample opportunity for nature walks.
Witness Roger with a rare wildflower...

Another steamer, and more family fun...

Nice detail on this caboose. Fittingly, until next year...
